According to a report out of the Bangor Daily News in Maine, White donated $100,000 to Hermon High School, where he graduated in 1987, after visiting the campus last Labor Day weekend.
The school has already used the money to commission a new "combination multisport scoreboard-LCD message center" on campus, which will be seen by all entering the school on one side.
"Having the scoreboard there will enable us to promote not only sports activities, but all other school programs as well as meetings and other events,? said Hermon principal Brian Walsh in the report.
Walsh detailed how White's donation came about, and said the money will benefit all in the community.
"He drove up to the school and saw all the improvements that have been made over the years, the lights, the grandstands, the entry way and the tennis courts,? said Walsh. "Then he saw the [football] goalposts and he got really excited. He called me up and asked, ?What can I do to help???
"We plan to turn to boosters and parents with trade skills to reduce the costs involved in installing the sign. But the great thing about this gift from Dana is that it not only benefits the sports teams at Hermon High School but the entire community with having the message center available. We?re just fortunate to have so much support from the alumni, the school boosters and the parents."

Penick's Analysis: These are the types of things that White doesn't ever publicize, but it's a part of what makes him who he is. He's ruthless against those that are on his bad side, and he can be a vicious business-man, but the things he does off the radat like this are all great, and the kindness and humanity he shows in giving back to people and being selfless in some situations is a great side to him that doesn't always get highlighted.
