The organization announced the fight on Monday morning.
Cantwell, the final WEC Light Heavyweight Champion, will be fighting for his spot on the UFC's roster. Though he entered the UFC with a 6-1 record when his division was folded in from the WEC in 2008, Cantwell has gone just 1-3 in his four fights in the UFC. A medical condition kept him out of action for 18 months between his third and fourth fights in the UFC, however, and thus they are giving him one more opportunity to get back on track.
Massenzio is equally in desperate need of a win. After going just 1-2 in his first stint with the organization, Massenzio won a fight in April in New Hampshire before taking a fight a weight class above against Krzysztof Soszynski on three days notice at UFC 131 and losing a decision. Now back at middleweight, a loss here will likely send him back out of the organization again.
UFC 136 is headlined by two title fights, a Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian, and the Lightweight Championship rematch between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.
Penick's Analysis: This is a solid preliminary card fight for two fighters who need a win. Both will be fighting to keep their jobs in the UFC, and it will make for a competitive fight as they desperately try to hold onto their spots in the organization.
