Former King of the Cage lightweight champion Bobby Green will make his Strikeforce debut earlier than initially planned, replacing Lyle Beerbohm against Gesias Cavalcante at the July 30 Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson card near Chicago.Green had been matched with Milton Vieira at Strikeforce Challengers 18 on Aug. 12 until a substitute was recently needed due to an injury to Beerbohm.
Green (15-4) first appeared on the national spotlight facing Dan Lauzon on the second Affliction event in January 2009. Although Green would surrender to a rear-naked choke late in the first round, he displayed an aggressive, viewer-friendly fighting style. Green continued fighting in the California area, capturing King of the Cage titles in the junior welterweight and lightweight divisions. Green, whose last fight was a five-round decision over Dominic O'Grady in April, is a recent Strikeforce signee.
Cavalcante (15-4-1) is coming off a disappointing no contest last month for accidentally poking opponent Justin Wilcox in the eye at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum. A former top 10 lightweight in 2006-2007, the American Top Teamer is still in search of his first win on American soil in four years.
The lightweight bout will be on the top of the preliminary portion of the card.
