The semifinals of Strikeforce's Heavyweight World Grand Prix may be coming to the organization's planned September 10 event, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.

The event already has four fights rumored, with Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza expected to defend his Strikeforce Middleweight Championship against Luke Rockhold, Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal taking on Roger Gracie, Gegard Mousasi vs. Mike Kyle and Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco.

If the semifinal bouts make their way to the card as well, the event will gain Josh Barnett vs. Sergei Kharitonov and Alistair Overeem against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva.

Kharitonov and Silva earned their way into the semifinal round with victories over Andrei Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko, and Overeem and Barnett punched their tickets with wins last month over Fabricio Werdum and Brett Rogers.

No host venue or city has yet been chosen for the event, which has not yet been officially announced by Strikeforce, either.

Penick's Analysis: The earlier these semifinal fights take place the quicker they can get to the finals. Of course, it means Silva and Kharitonov will have been out of action for nearly seven months while Overeem and Barnett turnaround with less than three months between fights, but that was going to be the issue regardless of when it was booked. Still, if these fights get added to the September card, then this will be one hell of a stacked event for Showtime, and they'll have at least one really good matchup for an HDNet preliminary card broadcast based on what's already scheduled.
