UFC 138 Prelim Results: Philip De Fries makes successful UFC debut in decision over Rob Broughton

UFC newcomer Philip De Fries needed to survive a couple minutes in a mounted crucifix against Rob Broughton at UFC 138, but in doing so he kept the fight alive and wound up winning a unanimous decision in his debut.

De Fries held positional advantage throughout the first and third rounds, and even in the beginning of the second round, working his takedowns and passing into superior positions.

However, after getting swept in the second, and battling out of repeated kimura attempts, he found himself caught in the mounted crucifix, and had to hold on as Broughton rained down elbows and attempted to wrench his arm in a submission hold.

By surviving and notching the win, De Fries kept his record perfect at 8-0 with one no contest. This was the first time he had reached the third round and thus the first fight he has had go the distance. Broughton has now lost two straight and is 1-2 in the UFC overall.
